A little bit more about OUR vision...
The St James Tree!
Our vision at St James is represented by the St James Tree.
1. Why? - The Roots.
Why do we meet together at St James? Why do we do what we do? This is answered by our mission statement which is;
'To know Christ and to make Him known'
There are three dimensions to this:
a. To know Christ - for our selves. To receive and to grow deeper in the life-giving love of God and to be inspired to walk with God's Spirit on a life long journey of faith.
b. To know Christ - amongst each other. A Christian is not alone, they belong to the family of God and with others they learn and grow together in faith, in prayer and in worship. Through friendships which are sharing and caring, we encounter the love of God through one another.
c. To make Christ known - to those around us. The love of God is a precious, dynamic, life changing gift, and we are called to give it away! Jesus calls us to remain in His love by loving one another. To make Christ known is to make known the love of God at home, at work, amongst friends, in our community, to whoever we encounter and are connected to, by sharing His love through our words, acts of kindness and loving relationships.
This is represented by the roots of the tree, out of which grows our life.
2. Who and How? - The Trunk.
Who are we? And How do we like to do things? These questions are answered by our values. Our values tell us what are important to us, and they affect our behaviour. We have 6 key values here at St James, which affect what we do and how we do them.
a. To encounter the LOVE of God
b. To be a FAMILY where everyone can belong
c. To Reach OUTWARDS
d. To be PRAY-ERS and WORSHIPPERS
e. To GROW in faith and numbers
f. To be RELEVANT
These values are represented by the trunk and branches of the tree. They grow out of the roots and out of them come the leaves and the fruit.
3. What? The leaves of the tree.
So what do we do to know Christ and to make Him known, according to our values? There are far too many to list here, but we hope this website gives you a good idea. The what we do are represented by the leaves of the tree.
THE FRUIT
The fruit, the purpose of mission, what we see and long to see more of here at St James, are people, whose lives have been impacted and transformed by 'knowing Christ and to making Him known'.
